Do you need the 8-hour supervision training?
The BACB requires an 8-hour supervision training, based on its Supervisor Training Curriculum Outline (2.0), before you supervise certain people. Answer three questions to find out.
This is a guide only. Always confirm with the current BACB handbook for your credential.
Two parts, aligned with the BACB outline
The BACB organizes supervisor training into two sections. We teach both, with practice and competency checks built into each unit.
- Your responsibilities for service quality
- Building a strong supervisory relationship
- Behavioral Skills Training to teach new skills
- Performance feedback and monitoring
- Procedural fidelity and mastery criteria
- BACB fieldwork requirements and documentation
- Planning competency goals across the trainee's experience
- Evaluating how effective your supervision is
- Ethics in the supervisory relationship
- Helping skills transfer across settings and clients
You don't just watch. You show you can do it.
The BACB expects supervisor training to include chances to show verbal or practical competence. So every unit ends with you doing the skill, not only answering questions about it.

Good to know
- Supervisor Training (the 8-hour course) is for professionals who will supervise. It is not fieldwork supervision.
- Taking part in UMTC courses or the parent program does not provide qualifying fieldwork hours.
